WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Mrs. Frances J. (Swope) Stuckey, 91, of 12094 Catoctin Drive, Waynesboro, Pa., died at 10:25 p.m., Thursday, May 21, 2009, at her home.

Born March 25, 1918, in Rockford, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Roy N. Sr. and Mary Catherine (Tracey) Swope.

Mrs. Stuckey attended Washington Township High School.

She and her husband, the late Mr. Vernon K. Stuckey, were married April 3, 1937, in Halfway, Md. They moved to their present residence in August 1997. He died July 18, 2006.


Mrs. Stuckey was employed as a presser for Wayne Sportswear, Waynesboro, for 25 years and later worked in the dietary department at South Mountain Restoration Center, South Mountain, Pa. She retired in 1979.

She was a member of Rouzerville Church of the Brethren, Rouzerville, Pa.

Mrs. Stuckey was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking and in later years, she enjoyed playing cards.

She is survived by her son, Vernon G. Stuckey of Waynesboro; four grandchildren, Gordon D. Stuckey, Dr. Darla Pianowski, John D. DeRoss II and Samantha A. Hepler; six great-grandchildren; one stepgreat-granddaughter; one great-great-grandson; two brothers, Mitchell Swope and Roy N. Swope Jr.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Delores F. DeRoss, who died Sept. 11, 2007; and a number of brothers and sisters.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, with the Revs. Clarence and Darlene Stouffer officiating. Burial will follow in Harbaugh Church Cemetery, near Rouzerville.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
