Half of Antietam Creek Bridge to be re-formed

May 20, 2009|By JENNIFER FITCH

WAYNESBORO, Pa. -- Half of one side of the Antietam Creek Bridge over Washington Township Boulevard is being removed because the concrete did not meet testing certifications, Washington Township Supervisors Chairman Carroll Sturm said at a recent meeting.

"They're getting ready to re-form that and move on," Sturm said.

Workers tried to mitigate the problem, "but they're tied in tight on the PennDOT (Pennsylvania Department of Transportation) specifications on this," he said.

The contractor will pay for the replacement section, Sturm said.

The bridge is a major component of construction of the $16.7 million relief route being built north of Waynesboro.
