"This is on my tax dollars. I'd like to know why the sheriff's department has two deputy sheriffs at the roundabout on Cearfoss Pike and Salem Avenue extended, standing outside watching people go around there, to get them for a seat belt law. I think my tax dollars are more important than catching somebody without a seat belt on ... I don't think my taxpayer's money is being spent wisely." -- Hagerstown

"I want to thank the person in Maugansville who found my cell phone at the recycling area, and was kind enough to pick it up and put it where it might be readily seen when I remembered where I might have been. Thank you very much. I did find it and it is working." -- Hagerstown

"I live in Smithsburg. There are several homes here for the mentally handicapped. I'm very worried about employees smoking at some of these homes. Don't they know how harmful secondhand smoke is?" -- Smithsburg

"Went to my local bank yesterday to check on a CD that was due. They offered a whopping 1 percent for the coming year. When I left the palatial establishment, I had a severe case of heartburn and indigestion." -- Smithsburg area

"On May 9, my fiancé had a medical crisis. He has epilepsy. He had a seizure event and he got confused, and he wound up walking into the wrong apartment at the apartment complex we live. The police were called and he wound up being hospitalized. A few days later, we received a note from our apartment complex, saying that we are to be evicted. ... Does this apartment complex have the right to throw us out because of my fiancé's medical crisis?" -- Hagerstown

"Due to high property taxes and also taxes on our pensions and Social Security, I don't think I am interested in going to a senior center. Maryland and Washington County might as well offer us a euthanasia clinic, as this would be more in tune with what this state and county are really doing to us. Sadly, they would rather keep killing us slowly and collecting the little money we have left on the way there." -- Hagerstown

"The insurance companies are bankrupting our health-care system. I pay high premiums for individual insurance. Insurance companies are getting rich charging us so much. We need government insurance. If we can't afford Medicare and Social Security, how can we give billions of dollars to other countries?" -- Williamsport

"This is a word of praise for the students at South Hagerstown High School. School administrators do not know everything. I imagine that you students know a great deal about this student who misbehaved. In this county, you students have been given a lot of grief because a few students do not know how to behave themselves." -- Halfway

"If you are 50 and have gray hair and look like a baby boomer, beware. People are trying to put you in a wheelchair and steal your money." -- Hagerstown

"I see on the Baltimore news stations there's been a lot of stories on the violence in the prisons, the contraband being smuggled in -- all kinds of things that taxpayers are finally becoming aware of. Now I have a question that hasn't been brought up for a while. Why are there weights still inside the prisons? You people out there, you taxpayers don't realize how big and strong these guys get bulked up. ... The weights need to be removed from the prisons." -- Hagerstown

"Much is heard about individual rights. How about more stress on information about the responsibilities of American citizenship?" -- Hagerstown

"This is on this Nancy Pelosi thing. I think if she lied to Congress or she told a lie, she should be ousted out of office. Another thing is, it's her and Harry Reid and the rest of the Democrats that's keeping American people tied down with this oil thing because we won't drill oil in the U.S. I can't understand that. The environmental ... isn't gonna work because the poor people ... I don't know where our government's going to or coming from, but they ought to wake up a little bit and live in the real world where the poor people are." -- Hagerstown

"I'm calling about the County Commissioners' budget time. It's time to approve budgets, and I would appreciate it if they would consider the retirees this year for an increase. It's been three or four years since we've had an increase and look at the price of everything's gone up. Think it over." -- Clear Spring

"I'm just calling in response to the person from Shepherdstown, W.Va., who was critical of Miss California and her right to a belief in God. In other words, what I'm saying, God did intend on man and woman, as far as marriage goes, and he didn't have to believe what man says, but he sure better believe what God says. So he needs to get in the Word. Get the Bible out and read a little bit." -- Hagerstown

"I'm calling in regards to the fact of how do they get those little pirate ships into the jars?" -- Hagerstown

"I hope that all the people who have been touched by Loretta Thornhill pay it forward and help someone else. She's done a great service to our community." -- Waynesboro, Pa.
