MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- A Berkeley County father, being held in the Eastern Regional Jail on 26 counts of sexually abusing his 11-year-old daughter, was indicted Tuesday by a Berkeley County grand jury.

His indictment was among more than 20 handed down during the jury's daylong deliberations. The panel is expected to continue hearing cases today and possibly Thursday.

The name of the 36-year-old defendant is not being published to protect the child's identity.

According to court records, he was charged with incest, sexual abuse by a parent, and second- and third-degree sexual assault.

Three defendants were indicted on counts of burglary, grand larceny and conspiracy stemming from an incident in which guns, a gun safe, a diamond pendant and other jewelry were taken from an area home.

The three named in the indictments are Robert M. Connell, 20, of 426 Cashew Lane, Gerrardstown, W.Va.; Hank W. West, 21, of 8631 Apple Harvest Drive, Gerrardstown; and Joshua A. Wheeler, 20, whose address was listed as the Eastern Regional Jail in Martinsburg.

Two Martinsburg women were indicted on welfare fraud charges in unrelated cases, according to court records. They are Sabrina S. Lapole, 41, of Bedington Road, and Janna Halfield, 37, of 2401 Martins Circle.

Others indicted Tuesday include:

o Cornell Tillman, 51, of 117 E. Martin St., Martinsburg, was indicted on theft counts alleging he stole 231 cartons of cigarettes valued at more than $8,300 from a local Food Lion grocery store.

o Jacob C. Kesecker, 24, an inmate at Eastern Regional Jail, was indicted on counts of grand larceny, forgery, uttering and petit larceny, second offense.

o Mary Ellen Bush, 27, an inmate at Eastern Regional Jail, was indicted on two counts each of forgery and uttering, and one count of conspiracy.

o Sherry L. Basore, 24, of 253 Hanshew Lane, Martinsburg, was indicted on one count each of burglary, grand larceny and uttering, two counts of forgery and three counts of felony conspiracy.

o Laurie A. Anderson, 32, of 23 Sumter Drive, Martinsburg, was indicted on 17 counts involving credit card theft. She is charged with three counts of identity theft, three of computer fraud, two of felony possession of a credit card and nine of forgery.

o Ernie L. Mowbray Jr., 35, an inmate at Eastern Regional Jail, was indicted on a count of arson in the first degree.

o Christopher R. Stotler, 18, an inmate at Eastern Regional Jail, was indicted on counts of burglary and destruction of property.

o Darren E. Butler, 38, an inmate at Eastern Regional Jail, was indicted on an embezzlement count in a case involving the theft of more than $4,000 from Zion Methodist Church. Butler was employed by the church as its treasurer, according to court records.

o Shane A. Kline, 37, of 808 DeSoto Way, Martinsburg, was indicted on one count of embezzlement.

o Jonathan J. Miller, 19, no street address listed, Martinsburg, was indicted on one count of grand larceny and misdemeanor destruction of property.

o John A. Jollon, 44, of 214 Polo Green, Martinsburg, was indicted on counts of breaking and entering, and destruction of property.

o Lisa A. Hearn, 32, an inmate at Eastern Regional Jail, was indicted on one count of attempted grand larceny.

o Gerald A. McDaniel, 33, an inmate at Eastern Regional Jail, and Tina M. McDaniel, 30, of 2399 Leetown Road, Ranson, W.Va., were indicted on two counts each of felony obtaining money under false pretense.
