May 18, 2009

Discovery Station and the Hagerstown Lions Club are co-sponsoring the third annual Discovery Classic Golf Tournament Friday, July 24, at Black Rock Golf Course.

There will be a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m. The tournament is a four-person scramble format with a team minimum handicap of 50. Lady golfers are welcome.

Tournament prizes will be awarded to the top three teams in each flight and to winners of special contests, including longest drive on designated par 5 and closest to the pin on all par 3s. A putting challenge, open to all players as well as nongolfers, offers a $5,000 grand prize for the finalist who can sink a 50-foot putt.

Entry fee is $80 per golfer. A hole sponsorship, including foursome, costs $400. The fee includes registration, duffer's bag, greens fee and cart fee, beverage cart, buffet luncheon, multiple prizes and free range balls at 8 a.m. Golfers' entry also includes two free putts in the putting challenge. Two additional putts can be purchased for $5 each. Nongolfers can enter the putting event and attend a buffet luncheon for a $25 entry fee.
