Washington County man charged after foot chase



Deputies chased a car on Virginia Avenue early Sunday and the driver was taken into custody after a short foot chase, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

James Fitzgerald Brunson, 37, of 1507 Broadfording Road, Hagerstown, was charged with several traffic violations, including DUI, according to a news release.

The incident started about 3:30 a.m. when Deputy R.L. Socks attempted to stop a white sport utility vehicle on Virginia Avenue for suspected speeding, the release said.

The vehicle did not stop and continued northbound on Virginia Avenue, entering Hagerstown and later stopping at Virginia Avenue and Brown Avenue, the release said.

Brunson got out of the vehicle and was caught after the short foot chase, police said.

Friday, May 15:

o At 11:16 a.m., theft from a vehicle was reported in the 13600 block of Lois Street. A temporary tag was taken.

o At 11:30 a.m., an assault was reported at Springfield Middle School.

o At 4:03 p.m., theft was reported in the unit block of East Church Street in Williamsport. An umbrella was taken.

o At 4:32 p.m., an assault was reported in the area of the Williamsport McDonald's.

o At 9:40 p.m., breaking and entering was reported in the 100 block of Hump Road.

Saturday, May 16:

o At 4:55 a.m., drug violations were reported in the area of Haven Road and Pennsylvania Avenue.

o At 7:45 a.m., malicious destruction of property was reported in the 14700 block of Mercersburg Road.

o At 4:57 p.m., malicious destruction of property was reported in the area of East High Street.

o At 6:35 p.m., theft was reported in the 17900 block of Garden Lane. Someone took jars of coins.

o At 6:43 p.m., theft from a vehicle was reported in the area of Dam No. 4 Road. Someone took a cell phone, wallet and sunglasses.

o At 7:44 p.m., theft was reported in the 19300 block of Manor Church Road. Someone took a dirt bike.

o At 9:05 p.m., shoplifting was reported at Kohl's, 17145 Cole Road.

o At 9:31 p.m., malicious destruction of property was reported in the 17400 block of Fair Oaks Court. Someone damaged a door.

o At 9:45 p.m., a missing person was reported. Cody James Behanna, 17, was reported missing from Cedar Ridge Home, 12146 Cedar Ridge Road.

o At 11:22 p.m., breaking and entering was reported in the 1100 block of Silver Run Place. Someone broke into a shed and took a Stihl saw.

Sunday, May 17

o At 1:03 a.m., breaking and entering was reported in the 25400 block of Cascade Road.

o At 1:36 a.m., a fight was reported at Chocolate Park liquors, 14433 Macafee Hill Road.

o At 2:32 a.m., an assault was reported in the unit block of East Water Street.

o At 4:39 a.m., malicious destruction of property was reported in the 2000 block of Windsong Drive. Someone broke the window out of a vehicle.

o At 9:44 a.m., breaking and entering was reported in the 6100 block of Appletown Road. Someone took a paintball gun.

o At 11:16 a.m., malicious destruction of property was reported in the 14600 block of Mercersburg Road.

o At 4:25 p.m., theft was reported in the 19500 block of Spring Valley Drive. Someone took a tag.

o At 4:33 p.m., shoplifting was reported at Kohl's, 17145 Cole Road.

o At 5:01 p.m. breaking and entering was reported in the 500 block of Clark Road. A television was taken.

o At 5:01 p.m.., breaking and entering was reported in the 22400 block of Goose Street.

o At 5:46 p.m., shoplifting was reported at The Icing by Claire's, 17301 Valley Mall Road.

o At 6:25 p.m., theft was reported in the 1300 block of Virginia Avenue. Someone took a bicycle.

o At 6:47 p.m., theft was reported in the 19300 block of Manor Church Road. Someone took a dirt bike.

o At 11:58 p.m., malicious destruction of property was reported in the 11500 block of Boyd Road. Someone keyed a vehicle.

Monday, May 18:

o At 2:20 a.m., malicious destruction of property was reported in the 17000 block of Valley Mall Road. Someone keyed a vehicle.
