South High alumni award scholarships

Ashley Bockstanz and Shane Santell have been named the winners of the South Hagerstown Alumni Association scholarships.

They were each awarded $1,000 scholarships honoring their outstanding scholastic achievements, and participation in numerous school and community activities.

Ashley Bockstanz

Ashley plans to attend Hagerstown Community College for the first two years to explore a variety of interests, particularly those utilizing her musical talents and peer counseling. She has completed a rigorous academic program, with mostly honors courses, achieving a strong grade-point average. Ashley is committed to activities related to music, theater and peer counseling, and has taken a leadership role in chorus and theater for the past three years. She has also been active in the community and in her church.

Shane Santell

Shane will attend Penn State Mont Alto in the fall. He plans to pursue a career in exercise science or criminal justice.

He has maintained a strong grade-point average while completing a rigorous academic program. Shane's activities include Student Government, Honor Club and Link Crew. In addition, he was a member of the football, basketball and track teams, serving as the captain of varsity basketball and varsity track.
