Kenneth L. Kilheffer, 71, died Friday, April 24, 2009, at his home in Smithsburg, Md.

Born April 12, 1938, in Lancaster, Pa., to Harold and Dorothy Weaver Kilheffer, he graduated from McCaskey High School, Gettysburg College and Gettysburg Theological Seminary.

After ordination at his home church, Christ Lutheran, in Lancaster in 1963, he served parishes in Baltimore, Md. (St. Mark's), Cloquet, Minn. (Zion), Walnut Grove, Minn. (Trinity), Cannon Falls, Minn. (Spring Garden), Avoca, Minn. (Faith) and Dawson, Minn. (Providence Valley), from which he retired in 2003.

After retirement, he and his wife, Sari (Slick), returned to Sari's hometown of Smithsburg.

Ken is survived by his wife, Sari; children, Mark and wife, Brenda, of Green Bay, Wis., Kari Gleason and sons, Samuel and James, of Marshall, Minn., Heather Kilheffer-Haugen of Flandreau, S.D., and Holly and husband, Geoffrey Kuchera, of Chanhassen, Minn.; and one brother, Richard, and wife, Ella. Nieces and nephews also survive him.


Ken was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert.

Ken was a member of Haven Lutheran Church, 1035 Haven Road, Hagerstown, Md. His memorial service will be held during the 9:30 a.m. worship service at Haven on Sunday, May 24. A potluck luncheon will follow the service.

At a later date, Ken's ashes will be returned to Minnesota to be scattered by family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to be given to Heifer International or ELCA World Hunger Appeal.
