Brashears leads Shenandoah

SALISBURY, Md. -- Former St. Maria Goretti star Kevin Brashears helped lead Shenandoah University to the NCAA Division III Regional title on Saturday with an 11-7 win over Johns Hopkins.

Brashears was named Most Outstanding Player in the regional, leading Shenandoah to its first appearance in the NCAA Division III World Series this week in Appleton, Wisc.

Down 5-0 to Johns Hopkins, Brashears ignited a rally with a two-run home run in the third inning and then drove in a run in Shenandoah's seven-run eighth inning. Brashears went 5-for-5 in the title game and also scored three runs and batted .500 in the Hornets' three wins.

Shenandoah meets either Farmingdale State (N.Y.) or RPI in the World Series opener on Friday at 4:30.


Heritage wins MDCC title

Morgan McIntire scored two goals to lead Heritage Academy to a 4-0 win over host Grace Academy in the Mason Dixon Christian Conference championship game Saturday. The Eagles captured their second MDCC title in the last three years.


Stephanie O'Brien and Rachel Shirk each added a goal, while Bri Dorsey and Harmony Horn each had an assist for the Eagles. Rachel Clarke had eight saves for 12th shutout of the season.


Wyoming Seminary 14, Mercersburg 8

KINGSTON, Pa. -- Mercersburg Academy fell in its final game of the season.

Ashley Irving, Sabina Rizzo and Coralie Thomas each had two goals for the Blue Storm (3-9), while Jenn Dillon had a goal and an assist, Paige Harry had a goal and Steph Seibert had an assist and eight saves.
