SHARPSBURG, Md. - Clifford Sylvester "Eight Ball" Churchey, 82, of Sharpsburg, Md., died Thursday, May 14, 2009, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.

Born Feb. 13, 1927, in Sharpsburg, to the late Seibert Joseph and Mary Mae Jamison Churchey.

He attended Sharpsburg schools.

He was employed by Western Maryland Railway for 43 years until his retirement.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during WWII.

He was of the Protestant faith.

He was a lifetime member of Antietam Post 236 American Legion of Sharpsburg.

Clifford loved and was dedicated to his family. He also enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include: wife, Marie Ellen Lapole Churchey, married for 57 years of Sharpsburg; daughter, Linda M. Ahalt and her husband Arthur M. of Sharpsburg; son, Michael L. Churchey of Sharpsburg; sister, Alta Mae Crampton of Antietam, Md.; brother, Edgar J. Churchey of Sharpsburg; granddaughter, Melissa D. Tryon of Sharpsburg.


He was predeceased by two infant children; six sisters, Ethel Semler, Hazel Canfield, Louise Darner, Dorothy Byrd, Pearl Hazelton and Phyllis Gray; and three brothers, Charles Churchey, Fred Churchey and Lee Churchey.

The family will receive friends at the Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, Md., on Sunday, May 17, 2009, from 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral home will be open after 1 p.m. Sunday for the convenience of family and friends.

Graveside services will be at Mountain View Cemetery, Sharpsburg, on Monday, May 18, 2009, 10 a.m., with Father Mark Michael officiating. Military graveside services will be provided by AMVETS Post 10 and Marine Corps League of Hagerstown, Md.
