May 15, 2009

MERCERSBURG, Pa. -- Two Mercersburg, Pa., cousins were killed early Friday in a single-vehicle crash on Fort Loudon Road south of Mercersburg in Montgomery Township, Pa., according to Franklin County Coroner Jeffrey R. Conner.

Gary Lee Bivens, 41, and Karena J. Bivens, 42, died when a pickup truck crashed in front of 11719 Fort Loudon Road Friday at 12:16 a.m., Conner said.

Gary Bivens was driving a 1998 Ford F-150 north on Fort Loudon Road when the truck crossed into the opposing traffic lane and went off the roadway, Pennsylvania State Police said in a news release. The truck went up an embankment and struck two trees before coming to rest, state police said.

Neither the driver nor the passenger was wearing a seat belt, Conner said. Karena Bivens was thrown from the truck and Gary Bivens was partially ejected, Conner said.
