Carnival event planned in Henry's memory

Maugansville Elementary School will hold the Henry's Hustle and Carnival at the school Saturday.

All proceeds benefit Alex's Lemonade Stand-Foundation for Childhood Cancer in honor of Henry Scheck and the Scheck family. Henry, 4, passed away recently from childhood cancer. He would have been a kindergartner at the school. Go to for more information.

The activities and times are as follows:

o 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. - Red Cross blood drive in school cafeteria

o 10 a.m. - 1 mile run (registration is at 9:15 a.m.)

o 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. - Carnival gets under way with food, bake sale, cake walk, moon bounces, dunk tank, face painting, temporary tattoos for children and carnival games.

On Sunday, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hair Cuttery on Garland Groh Boulevard, there will be a cut-a-thon. Haircuts will be given for a $10 donation, with proceeds going to Alex's Lemonade Stand in honor of Henry.


Specialty auction

Washington County Homemakers will hold its seventh scholarship auction Friday, May 22, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Elks Lodge 378 on Robinwood Drive. Six previous scholarship auctions have provided funds for 98 scholarships. Businesses have donated gift certificates and other items such as home furnishings, gift baskets and handcrafts.


Melvin "Jim" and Mary McNamee will celebrate their 31st wedding anniversary May 19.
