Plant sale raises money for master gardeners

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The 13th annual plant sale held by the Master Gardeners of Penn State Cooperative Extension of Franklin County will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, May 22, at the extension office's demonstration and trial gardens on Franklin Farm Lane in Chambersburg.

Plants include native and drought-tolerant plants. Varieties of perennials will include species suitable for shade (such as columbine and Jacob's ladder) and sun (daisies, rudbeckia and echinacea, among many others). Vegetable plants will include varieties of tomatoes not available at garden centers. Shrubs such as lilacs and forsythia will be available, as well as herbs and ground covers.

All plants have been raised in the area, and many are divisions taken directly from the local volunteers' gardens.
