HAGERSTOWN, Md. - Lloyd Wheeler Wilkerson, age 85, formerly of Hancock, Md., and a resident of Loyalton Assisted Living, died Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at the facility.

Born April 28, 1924, in Chicamuxen, Md., he was the son of the late George B. and Mabel Alice Wheeler Wilkerson.

He was a veteran of World War II and Korea, serving with the U.S. Navy and Naval Reserves.

He was retired from the federal government, employed with the Naval Air Systems Command.

He was Past Master of Perseverance Lodge 208, AF & AM, Indian Head, Md.

He was Past Master of Southern Maryland Past Masters Association; a life member of York Council No. 23; a life member of York Royal Arch Chapter N. 44; Past Patron OES Grace Chapter 21, Indian Head; and Grand Representative to British Columbia, OES. He was also a life member of Knights Templar; Past Associate Guardian International Order of Jobs Daughters, Bethel 24, Indian Head; a member of the Indian Head American Legion Post 233; and a life member of V.F.W. Post 1800.


He is survived by his wife, Phoebe Edwina Murray Wilkerson, also a resident of Loyalton Assisted Living, Hagerstown, whom he married Nov. 21, 1947, in Indian Head; one daughter, Lynnea Richards and husband Joe of Hagerstown; as well as a number of nieces, nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Bernadine Clancey; one brother, G. Gertram "Boots" Wilkerson; and two infant siblings.

A service, including Masonic and Eastern Star services, will be held Saturday, May 16, at 2 p.m. at the Hancock United Methodist Church. The Rev. Duane L. Jensen will officiate.

The family will receive friends at the church Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m.

A private burial will be held at a later date.
