Winter Street Elementary thanks area businesses

Winter Street Elementary School would like to thank area businesses that made the school's bingo fundraiser a huge success.

The event helped the attendance committee raise money to help reward the students for "bee-ing here and bee-ing on time."

The money also helps the school provide breakfast and other rewards for students.

The school thanks Martin's, Target, AC&T, Turtle's Subs, Byers Stop-N-Go, Pope Tire, Chuck E. Cheese, Popeye's, Domino Pizza, Roxy Liquors, Orchid Garden, El Ranchero, Good Humor Breyers, Grease Monkey, M L Masonry, McDonald's, Sheetz, Chik-fil-A, Food Lion, the Winter Street staff, neighborhood families and friends.

The school raised $510 during the event.

Peaceable Paws to hold canine games night

On Friday, Peaceable Paws will host a games night for dogs and their owners. Games will be suitable for dogs with basic good manners training.

The event will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Peaceable Paws facilities at 17816 Spielman Road in Fairplay.

The entry fee is $5 per dog/owner team.

All proceeds will go to the Humane Society of Washington County.

Three activities will be planned for the evening:

o Treat Toss - Owner tosses a treat to the dog from a 3-foot distance; with accuracy, the distance will be increased.

o Find It - Owner and dog work a hide-and-seek game with three of the dog's favorite toys or treats.

o Bobbing for Hot Dogs - Dogs will be bobbing for one dozen hot dog "pennies" in a pan of water - depth of water to coincide with the size of the dog. Owner is allowed to encourage dog.

No choke, prong or shock collars are allowed. All equipment must be dog-friendly!

Ribbons and prizes will be awarded for each game winner.
