National Pike Festival rolls out Friday

Since 1989, the National Pike Festival and Wagon Train asks residents to "travel the road that made the nation." The three-day event kicks off Friday in Clear Spring and ends Sunday in Boonsboro.

Friday, May 15



  • 5 to 7 p.m. Wagon train encampment at Plumb Grove, 12654 Broadfording Road, Clear Spring. Free and open to the public. Bluegrass band under a tent.

    Saturday, May 16



  • 6 to 9 a.m. Breakfast available for purchase at Plumb Grove; harnessing and hitching of wagon train

  • 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pike Day activities at Clear Spring High School; Pike Day Festival kicks off at 11 a.m. with pet parade, pedal tractor races, petting farm, horseshoe pitching and plant sales.

  • 9 a.m. Wagon train departs east along U.S. 40 and travels east toward Hagerstown

  • 10 a.m. Pike Days Parade, Cumberland Street, Clear Spring

  • 10:30 a.m. Stop at Wilson's Store, 14921 Rufus Wilson Road, Clear Spring

  • 11 a.m. Cross Wilson's bridge, which spans Conococheague Creek (weather permitting)

  • 11:45 to 12:30 p.m. Wagon train stop, 100 yards west of U.S. 40 and Md. 63 intersection; chicken barbecue sale proceeds benefit scholarship program

  • 2 p.m. Wagon train stop at City Park, north end of park at parking lot between Hager House and museum; Jonathan Hager House is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Washington County Museum of Fine Arts is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • 4 p.m. Wagon train arrives at Washington County Agricultural Center, 510 E. Wilson Boulevard, near Four States Livestock Auction

    Sunday, May 17



  • 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Breakfast offered by West Hagerstown Lions Club for donation

  • 10 a.m. Wagon train departs traveling east on Wilson Boulevard onto alternative U.S. 40

  • 10:30 a.m. Stop at Ravenwood Lutheran Village, Kenly Avenue. Train travels through Funkstown to alternative U.S. 40 to Boonsboro

  • 12:30 p.m. Wagon train stops for lunch at Auction Square Complex, Boonsboro

  • 1:15 p.m. Wagon train departs

  • 1:30 p.m. Shafer Memorial Park, Boonsboro. Wagon train ends. Depending on weather, weather wagon train will circle for 30 minutes before disassembling.
