Blood drive

A Pint Size Heroes blood drive will take place Friday, May 22, at Hickory Elementary School from 2:30 to 7:30 p.m. Those interested in participating should contact the school office at 301-766-8198 to schedule an appointment.

Hickory's goal is to have 35 people donate blood.

Check presentation

The Martin's food store on Wesel Boulevard in Halfway will host a special A+ Rewards check presentation Friday for the top five schools in the Washington County area. The event begins at 4:30 p.m.

PTA to meet

The South Hagerstown High School PTA will meet for the final time before the close of the 2008-09 school year today at 6 p.m. in the media center. All are invited to attend.


Yard sale

St. James Brethren Church, at 17718 Lappans Road (Md. 68), will host a yard sale Saturday, May 30, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Breakfast will be served from 8 to 10 a.m. Lunch will be available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Pavilion spaces are available for $15, which includes tables. Parking spaces are also available for $10, but tables must be provided. For more information, contact Brenda Griffith at 301-582-3343.

Hearing screenings

A deaf awareness day is planned at Valley Mall on Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Free hearing screenings and sign language classes are planned at the former Disney Store location. Check with the mall customer service center for times of classes.

Bonnet making

Visit the Jonathan Hager House Saturday to learn how to make your own frontier bonnet and apron.

The staff at the Hager House will show you how in this two-hour workshop. The cost is $5 per person, which includes materials. Very minimal sewing knowledge is required.

This event will be from noon to 2 p.m. and is for ages 7 and older. Registration must be completed by calling 301-739-8393.

Happy anniversary

My husband Nick and I will celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary Friday. I just wanted to take a minute to say I love you and am blessed to have you as part of my life. Thank you for our two beautiful boys. I couldn't imagine my life any different. Happy 10th anniversary.
