Arson suspected as house burns again

May 13, 2009|By TRISH RUDDER

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. -- Arson is suspected in a second fire at 6121 Timber Ridge Road in southern Morgan County.

The Wednesday morning fire destroyed the two-story, wood-frame, single-family dwelling, Berkeley Springs Fire Department Assistant Chief James Steiner said.

The damage is estimated at $250,000, he said.

Steiner said his company received a call at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday for the same house that burned Monday afternoon. That fire was in the living room and destroyed its contents, Steiner said.

No one was in the home Wednesday, Steiner said, because the house was no longer inhabitable. The American Red Cross provided the occupants with temporary lodging.

Assistant State Fire Marshal Patrick J. Barker had not completed the investigation of Monday's fire. Barker is due back today to continue the investigation, Steiner said.

Anyone with information should contact Steiner at 304-258-3191.

Along with Berkeley Springs Fire Department, South Morgan and Great Cacapon Fire Departments in Morgan County, W.Va., responded. Also responding were Back Creek Valley Fire Department in Berkeley County, W.Va.; Hancock Fire Department in Washington County; and Reynolds Store and Gainesboro Fire Departments in Frederick County, Va.
