Ice cream in the park



As you are enjoying the many events and activities in Williamsport this summer, remember to visit the ice cream concession in Byron Memorial Park.

The concession is sponsored by the Williamsport Volunteer Fire and EMS. The volunteers are now serving up Hershey's hand-dipped and soft-serve ice cream every day, weekdays from 5 to 9 p.m. and weekends from 1 to 9 p.m.

Bring a copy of this column and save 50 cents on ice cream.

Swim lesson schedule is set



Early sign-up for Red Cross Swim Lessons will be held at Pavilion 1 in Byron Memorial Park on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. A registration fee of $45 is due at the time of sign-up. Payment is by cash or check only.

Lessons for morning sessions are scheduled from 9 to 11:15 a.m. and offer three opportunities: Session 1 runs from June 22 to July 2; Session 2, July 6 to 16; and Session 3, July 20 to 30.

Evening sessions are scheduled from 6:15 to 7:45 p.m. and offer four opportunities: Session 1 runs from June 8 to 18; Session 2, June 22 to July 2; Session 3, July 6 to 16; and Session 4, July 20 to 30.

The pool and concession stand open Saturday, May 23. Hours are noon to 6 p.m. daily. Call the pool at 301-223-5983 after May 23 for later sign-up of swim lessons.

Spaghetti dinner to be held Saturday



Van Lear Brethren in Christ Church is having an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner Saturday from 4 to 6:30 p.m. All proceeds benefit the Williamsport Food Bank.

Tickets cost $5 for adults, $3 for children ages 6 to 12, and those 5 and younger eat free. Bring a nonperishable food item for the food bank and receive a free dessert.

Tickets are available at the door. Carry-outs are also available. The church is at 10745 Van Lear Drive, off Virginia Avenue.

Bingo fundraiser



The Williamsport Fire Co. and EMS Vera Bradley bingo fundraiser will be Sunday at the Williamsport Fire Hall on Brandy Drive.

Tickets cost $25 and include 30 games of bingo. Doors open at 11 a.m. and bingo starts at 1 p.m. For more information, call 301-223-8554.

Health screenings available Monday



Prevention Health Screenings will offer screenings Monday at St. Augustine's Catholic Church.

Six ultrasound screenings can be performed to identify risks for heart disease, stroke and osteoporosis. Available will be stroke/carotid artery screen, atrial fibrillation heart rhythm screen, abdominal aortic aneurysm screen, peripheral vascular disease screen, osteoporosis screen, and pulmonary function screen. Cost varies depending on the screening package selected.

Registration is required by calling 800-460-2860. The church is at 32 E. Potomac St.

Potomac Garden Club



The Potomac Garden Club will meet Tuesday, May 19, at 12:30 p.m. at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Williamsport.

President Norma Sayles will be presenting a workshop titled "Basic Flower Arranging." Members should bring a container and flowers to create a work of art.
