The North Hagerstown Hubs got their offense rolling in a 10-6 victory over Francis Scott Key in a Maryland Class 2A West quarterfinal softball game Tuesday.

North (7-9), the fourth seed, will play at top-seeded Walkersville today at 4:30 in the region semifinals.

"Our offense was really great today," North coach Amanda Fleming said. "We had a lot of clutch hits. We had some key bunts laid down for us."

Junior Ragan Shaw, the ninth hitter in the batting order, finished with two RBIs and two runs scored for the Hubs. Shaw also perfectly executed a clutch sacrifice bunt during the Hubs' four-run fourth inning.

"We practice bunting a lot," Shaw said. "We bunted a few times and that helped us to increase our lead. You have got to be aggressive with your baserunning if you want to score a lot of runs. Everyone paid attention and they knew what to do."

Sophomore Faith Ricker, who was called up from the JV team a few weeks ago, had a team-high three hits and Shanan Plunkett had two RBIs for the Hubs.

Leadoff batter Courtney Bowlus, Schnee Keller and Rachel Amalfitano had two hits and two runs scored apiece for the Hubs.

Amalfitano allowed just three earned runs in seven innings of pitching to get the win.

The Hubs led the whole game, taking a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Bowlus hit the first pitch to right for a triple and came home on the next pitch when Caroline Kreiger singled to right. Kreiger stole second, took third on a throwing error and scored on Plunkett's sacrifice fly to center.

The Hubs added another run in the second when Keller singled to left, moved to third on Ricker's single to right and scored on Shaw's sacrifice fly to left.

The Hubs erupted for four runs in the fourth to increase their advantage to 7-0. Keller ripped a leadoff triple to center and scored on Amalfitano's single to center. Ricker followed with a single to right and Amalfitano scored on the same play on a throwing error.

Shaw laid down a sacrifice bunt and everybody was safe when the Eagles' first baseman dropped the throw and the ball rolled to the outfield to enable Ricker to score. Shaw moved to second on the same play on a throwing error back to the infield. Bowlus reached on a bunt single past the pitcher and Shaw hustled home from second on the play for the Hubs' fourth run of the inning.

Brittany Brown, who had three hits, slugged a three-run homer for FSK (6-8) in the fifth to reduce the deficit to 7-3.

The Eagles added three more runs in the top of the sixth on a two-run single by Megan Liebknecht and an RBI single by Brown to chop the lead down to 7-6.

But the Hubs answered with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to stretch their lead to 10-6. The Hubs got RBI singles by Shaw and Alyssa Collier and a sacrifice fly by Plunkett.
