Elizabeth M. Wagner, who was fondly known as Betsy, died May 10, 2009, at Washington County Hospital after a brief illness. She was a resident of Loyalton of Hagerstown and formerly lived in Cumberland, Md.

Betsy was born Oct. 15, 1919, in Sandersville, Ga., the daughter of the late Smiley Lewis Moring and the late Ruth Moring Smith.

She spent most of her childhood in Atlanta, Ga. After high school, she attended Columbia University, Presbyterian School of Nursing, and received her degree in nursing in 1938.

She was an ardent bridge player and golfer. She retired from Sacred Heart Hospital in 1981.

Betsy was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert G. Stover; and her second husband, Carl H. Wagner.

She is survived by a daughter, Suellen Stover of Sterling, Va.; a son, William Stover and his wife, Betty, of Sharpsburg, Md.; and a stepson, Eric Wagner, and his wife, Lynn, of Winchester, Va. She also is survived by four grandchildren: Hannah Martirano, Amanda Campbell, Brent Wagner and Kellie Wagner. In addition, she is survived by two great-grandchildren, Lillie and Riley Martirano.
