Gary Wayne Guessford, 59, of 18524 Sherbrooke Drive, Hagerstown, Md., died Saturday, May 9, 2009, in Falling Waters, W.Va.

Born Nov. 11, 1949, in Hagerstown, Md., he was the son of the late Alfred P. Guessford and Violet M. Myers Cramer.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.

He was retired from MCTC as a correctional officer. He was employed by Washington County Parks and Recreation.

He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church.

He was a member and 1st vice commander of Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 and co-captain of the Honor Guard.

He was a member of Voiture No. 651 40/8 and past 1st commander of American Legion of Bath, Maine, and a member of VFW Post 1936.

He is survived by his wife, Tina Guessford; two daughters, Debra Forrest and husband, Chris, and Crystal Gammeter and partner, Dan, all of Hagerstown, Md.; one son, Michael Guessford and wife, Tamara, of Hagerstown; two stepdaughters, Tracy Mozingo and husband, Gary, of Clear Spring, Md., and Ericka Fazenbaker of Hagerstown; three sisters, Dawn Young and husband, Pete, Donna Kershner and husband, Irvin, all of Hagerstown, and G. Susan Androvich and husband, Jamie, of Waynesboro, Pa.; one brother, Russell Guessford and wife, Ellen, of Hagerstown; eight grandchildren, Storm Mozingo, Mia Mozingo, Megan Mozingo, Zachary Guessford, Riley Beall, Bransyn Dillinger, Izaiah Dillinger and Mearah Dillinger; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Richard G. Hembrock will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery. Military honors will be provided at the cemetery by American Legion Post 42.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 in honor of Gary Guessford, 405 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
