Vacant Hancock house burns

no one injured

HANCOCK -- A vacant two-story house at Fairview Orchards burned to the ground overnight Sunday, the Maryland State Fire Marshal's office said in a news release.

The fire at 13702 Stein Road was reported at 11:58 p.m. Sunday, Deputy State Fire Marshal Jamie D. Rodeheaver said. The property, valued at $5,000, was a total loss, he said.

No injuries were reported.

Fifteen firefighters from Hancock and Orleans responded to the blaze, which took five minutes to bring under control, Rodeheaver said.

The fire was reported by a passing motorist, he said.

The cause was under investigation.
