Band fundraiser

The South Hagerstown High School band will hold a yard sale and car wash at the school Saturday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Class of 1974

The South Hagerstown High School class of 1974 will hold its 35-year reunion Saturday, Aug.15, at Beaver Creek Country Club.

An informal social is planned Friday, Aug. 14, at the 10th Inning Funkstown Tavern in Funkstown.

Any member (and guest) of any other SHHS graduating class may also attend the Friday evening event (food and beverage on your own) and/or the Saturday evening indoor barbecue dinner at a cost of $30 per person.


A five-day cruise from Baltimore to Bermuda is also planned for Oct. 31.

Throughout May, the Shoney's restaurant at 17301 Valley Mall Drive will donate 10 percent of all sales on Mondays to the Humane Society of Washington County. The offer is good on meals throughout the day.

Tuesday - Joe Jefferson from the Antietam Velo Club will talk about bicycle racing.

SHHS alumni meeting set

South Hagerstown High School's Alumni Association will meet Thursday at 7 p.m. in the school's media center.

On the agenda for discussion are this year's scholarship recipients and the benefit golf tournament scheduled for June 11 at Beaver Creek Country Club.

Membership in the association is open to all South High graduates. Those who haven't attended a meeting are encouraged to come.

Children's Village plans annual Kids Alive Fest

Children's Village of Washington County Inc. will host its 18th annual Kids Alive Fest, Open House/Community-Safety Day Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Children's Village campus, 1546 Mount Aetna Road in Hagerstown. Admission is free. The event will be held rain or shine.

Two area youngsters will be inducted into the Children's Village Life Safety Hall of Fame at a ceremony beginning at 12:15 p.m. The students are being honored for implementing skills they learned and practiced at Children's Village to properly handle their family emergencies.

Many other activities are planned throughout the day.

Discovery Station

Saturday - Alison Davies, an international language educator, will present "French Conversational Phrases and Tidbits" at Discovery Station at 2 p.m

Art classes

The Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown will offer a variety of art classes during the summer months.

Registration is required for all classes.

Art exhibit

The Mansion House Art Gallery will have an exhibit by Trudy Coody during May.

The gallery, in Hagerstown City Park, is the home of Valley Art Association. The gallery is open Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.
