Autism seminar offered at HCC



Hagerstown Community College's Center for Continuing Education is offering a seminar on "Autism: A Therapeutic Model of Interventions."

The seminar will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, at The Merle S. Elliott Continuing Education and Conference Center on HCC's main campus.

Topics covered will include "Overview of the DIR Model, Identifying Functional Emotional Development," "Sensory System, Processing, Learning Relationships and Environments," "Intervention Types I and II," and "Intervention Types III and IV."

Professional CEUs are available for nurses, nurse practitioners, physical therapists, occupational therapists, social workers, psychologists, counselors and therapists.

Registration costs $49 and includes continental breakfast and CEUs. Participants are asked to provide their own lunches. On-campus dining is available.

Robinwood Health Fair set for Saturday



The public is invited to the 2009 Robinwood Health Fair, 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 16.

The event will feature a variety of health screenings:

  • breast exam

  • eye check

  • brake reaction time

  • body mass index

  • skin damage assessment

  • stroke risk assessment

  • cardiac risk assessment

  • blood pressure assessment

  • EKG

  • echocardiogram

  • holesterol assessment

  • deep vein thrombosis assessment

  • heart-lung check

    After being screened, participants will be able to speak with a physician, nurse or other Washington County Hospital staff member.
