Clear Spring claims MVAL Antietam following rainout

May 07, 2009

The continuous rain decided the MVAL Antietam baseball race Wednesday when it washed out the Clear Spring-Smithsburg game.

Clear Spring led 3-1 in the bottom of the third inning. Smithsburg put two runners on base, chasing Blazers starter Jordan Thurber in favor of Brandon Glazer. His second pitch plunked Josh Conway as the rain became steadier and umpires stopped the contest.

Smithsburg (11-3-1, 5-2), hoping to win the game and forge a tie in the MVAL Antietam, took a 1-0 lead on two Clear Spring errors and a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first inning.

Clear Spring (13-2, 6-1) came back against Conway with a three-run third inning on an RBI groundout by Kyle Crist and a two-run single by Joel Rowe, who fouled off six pitches before putting the ball in play.
