Waynesboro might lease out golf course

May 07, 2009

WAYNESBORO, Pa. -- Waynesboro's municipal golf course might be leased to an outside entity in the future.

"I'd like council to think about getting out of the golf course business and putting it out to bid. Let someone pay us," Councilman Ronnie Martin said.

Councilman Craig Newcomer responded that the recreation board is actively considering that idea.

The nine-hole golf course "breaks even, at best" in revenue, Borough Manager Lloyd Hamberger said.

Also, the council is getting estimates to tear down the caretaker's house at the golf course.
