Spring showers

If just one more person says, "well, we need it ..."

Yes, I guess perhaps we do need the rain. The upside it that it is not freezing rain, just good, old-fashioned spring showers ... and a lot of them!

Well, enough about something we can do nothing about and more about what we can do. Let's see what is going on in our area.

SHHS alumni meeting

Don't forget the South Hagerstown High School Alumni Assocation meeting next Thursday in the school's media center at 7 p.m. On the agenda are the scholarships and golf tournament at Baaver Creek Country Club on June 11.

All graduates of South High are encouraged to attend and get involved.

School happenings

Spring is known for field trips, and Emma K. Doub has one this week.

On Thursday, the school's fourth-graders will travel to The Maryland Theatre to hear the Maryland Symphony Orchestra perform.

The same day, there will be a 24 Game Math Challenge at Hagerstown Community College's ARCC at 4 p.m. If you have never had the opportunity to experience this mind-boggling math game, why not go watch great young minds at work?

On May 11, the Maryland Symphony Orchestra woodwind quartet will travel to Emma K. Doub and perform for the fourth- and fifth-graders at 1 p.m.

Pet fair and adoption

Do you have room in your home and heart for someone to love? How about someone furry and fun?

The Humane Society of Washington County will have a pet pair and adoption at the offices of Long and Foster Realtors on Dual Highway from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 16.

Donations of food and money will be accepted, and animals in need of loving and caring homes will be available for adoption. There will be food and drink, face painting, balloons and entertainment. Representatives from the Mason Dixon Kennel Club will be there.

Local businesses have donated items for raffles, and tickets are available. Leashed pets are welcome.
