Boonsboro High team competes in Physics Olympics

A Boonsboro High School team participated April 18 in the University of Maryland Physics Olympics 2009 at the University of Maryland, College Park campus.

In eight individual events, Boonsboro finished third in the Penny Boat mystery event, in which they had to create a boat out of aluminum foil, then had to guess how many pennies the boat would hold. The team finished sixth overall out of 13 teams, with a score of 267 points, only 20 points behind the first-place team.

The events included:

o Bridge building

o Egg drop

o Laser bull's eye

o Balloon distancer

o Projectile contest

o Optics orgy

o Bowling ball mystery event
