John William Hall, 90, of 232 Jackson Ave. in Hagerstown, Md., and formerly of Key Avenue in Hagerstown, died Thursday, April 30, 2009, at the home of his daughter.
Born Oct. 24, 1918, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Samuel and Molly Laudenslager Hall.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the occupation of Japan.
After leaving the armed services, he worked for Fairchild as a firefighter.
He joined the Western Enterprise Fire Co. as a volunteer firefighter in 1940. In 1950, he was hired as a paid firefighter and assigned to the Pioneer
Hook and Ladder Co. In 1952, he became fire chief and served the City of Hagerstown until 1974, when he retired due to injuries fighting a fire.
