Preps Area Roundup -- No. 7 Storm holds off No. 3 'Dogs

MERCERSBURG, Pa. -- Danny Phillips had three hits, including a grand slam, and finished with six RBIs as No. 7 Mercersburg Academy held off No. 3 Martinsburg 10-8 on Thursday.

Matt Timoney pitched a strong game for the Blue Storm (11-1), striking out nine over six innings and picking up the win.

The Bulldogs rallied for five runs in the top of the seventh, highlighted by Austin Nealey's grand slam.

Kameron Puller had four hits for the Bulldogs (17-8) and Brandon King had three hits, including a home run.

On Wednesday, Mercersburg routed St. Maria Goretti 16-3 in six innings at Municipal Stadium.

Phillip Dorney had three hits and three RBIs, Trevor Smith added two hits and drove in four and Tom Timoney had three hits for the Blue Storm. Dillon French struck out nine in 5 1/3 innings to pick up the win.

No. 4 Clear Spring 11, Williamsport 1

WILLIAMSPORT -- Jordan Thurber hit two home runs to lift Clear Spring past Williamsport in five innings in the MVAL Antietam.

Thurber had a two-run homer in the fourth inning, and followed with a solo shot in the fifth for the Blazers (12-2, 5-1). Brandon Glazer had three hits and four RBIs, while Brian Lesher added two hits.

Zach Lucas doubled for the Wildcats (2-11, 1-7), who managed just three hits in the game.
