HANCOCK -- Westbound Interstate 70 was closed for several hours Friday morning and early afternoon after a tractor-trailer overturned near Hancock, Maryland State Police said.
I-70 had been closed at the 3-mile marker after the accident, reported at about 6 a.m., blocked both westbound lanes, police said.
Traffic was backed up approximately nine miles at midmorning.
Westbound traffic was rerouted onto exit 3 through Hancock, re-entering I-70 at U.S. 522, police said.
The highway was open again by 2 p.m. The road remained congested as residual traffic was clearing the area, police said.
The tractor-trailer was hauling general merchandise.
There were no injuries requiring hospitalization, police said.
