Shepherd 6, W.Va. State 3

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. -- Drew McCormick homered twice and drove in four runs to lead Shepherd past West Virginia State in the winners' bracket semifinals of the WVIAC Tournament.

Brian Collins had two hits, including a home run, and two RBIs and was the winning pitcher, throwing 6 1/3 innings of four-hit ball for the Rams (31-16).

Shepherd will face Fairmont State today at noon in the winners' bracket final, while West Virginia State (29-12) will play Davis & Elkins at 3:30 in an elimination game.



Shepherd eliminated

VIENNA, W.Va. -- Shepherd University had its season come to an end when it dropped a 5-4 decision to Davis & Elkins in the WVIAC tournament.

Chelsea Oals, a Hedgesville graduate, had an RBI single as part of a three-run rally that got the Rams to within 5-4 before falling short to end the year with a 23-23 record.


Grier five behind

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Hagerstown's Ashley Grier shot a 2-over-par 74 in the first round of the Texas Hill Country Classic on Friday at the Dominion Country Club on the Duramed FUTURES Tour.

Grier was five shots out of first place, where six golfers were in a logjam with 69s.
