Mail Call

April 28, 2009

"I'd like to make a suggestion to the lawmakers in the area of Hagerstown and Washington County, and actually in the whole state of Maryland. I'm a waitress in a local restaurant in the area, and I really think it is very unfair for waiters and waitresses to not make minimum wage. We do a lot of heavy lifting, we do a lot of serving, we do a lot of side work, we do a lot of running around, and we only make $3 and some odd cents on the hour." -- Hagerstown

"I'm calling about the Ernstville Road and Big Pool Road. I'd like to know why the county hasn't fixed it. It's so rough, it's enough to tear your vehicles up." -- Big Pool

"I am calling in response to everyone that doesn't have health insurance and is literally dying, waiting on Social Services board in Baltimore to decide if they should live or die. I know how you feel, for I'm fighting for my husband, too. I am truly sorry for our system. Do something, Obama." -- Hagerstown

"Please remember that our prayer lists are not gossip invitations. Remember these people in our prayers, but do not assume that it is anyone's business to know why someone needs prayer. It would certainly be very rude to drop by and visit, when you have no clue what that person and their family is going through. Perhaps you could call first and ask if they feel up to visitors, or a meal." -- Hagerstown

"I can't believe that someone would steal a bag of trash from a sidewalk. I am appalled, and somewhat worried now. The thief will be surprised at what nasty items they will find. If they were hungry and wanted leftovers, they should go to the soup kitchen, but I hope there weren't trying to commit identity theft?" -- Hagerstown

"Do dog owners not hear their dogs barking? If they don't, I would like them to know that everyone else in the neighborhood does. Not good." -- Greencastle, Pa.

"To the person who didn't think it appropriate for The Herald-Mail to put the three young men who died on the same day on the front page of the paper: ... Have you ever lost three friends over a 12-hour period? My kids did. ... I commend The Herald-Mail for honoring their memory; it really helped my kids get through the grieving process. It helped me as a parent help them get through this. It got them to talk about their friends, their memories, and their loss (which was huge)." -- Hagerstown

"I saw the great movie premiere of 'Walking to Maryland', Saturday, April 18, at The Maryland Theatre. I thought it was a wonderful event, a great turnout. More shows need to be broadcast and made available for everyone to see." -- Hagerstown
