Photos sought for 'Our Town' contest

HANCOCK - Photographers are invited to submit their photos in the 2009 Hancock- area photo contest and exhibition on the theme, "Our Town."

The contest is designed to promote community pride by exhibiting photos that characterize life in and around the town of Hancock.

Subjects should be appropriate for the theme "Our Town," i.e. persons, places or things that demonstrate the character, institutions, traditions and lifestyle of Hancock and the surrounding community. Buildings, memorials, persons, scenery, animals, sports, activities, parades, cemeteries, etc. in the town of Hancock, and nearby areas of Maryland, Pennsylvania and West Virginia are all appropriate subjects.

Open to photographers of all levels. Two photos per entrant can be submitted at no cost. A $5 entry fee will be charged for each additional photo submitted.


Photo submissions must be at least 8-inches-by-10-inches in size, black and white or color, from digital or film cameras. Submissions do not need to be framed.

Photos must be received by Monday, Aug. 31.

They can be delivered to Marilyn Pontius, librarian at War Memorial Library in Widmyer Park.

The 10 to 12 photos selected by the judges will be exhibited Thursday, Oct. 1, to Thursday, Dec. 31 at War Memorial Library. The grand prize winner will receive $100. There will also be winners of four $25 prizes.
