Mont Alto campus to host annual MedCamp in June



MONT ALTO, Pa. -- Penn State Mont Alto will host its fourth annual MedCamp on June 15 to 19 for area high school students interested in learning more about health-care careers.

The program gives students entering ninth and 10th grades the opportunity to visit local hospitals and health-care facilities, according to a news release.

Participants learn about health-care careers including physicians, nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, radiology and pathology. Highlights of the camp include a trip to

Hershey (Pa.) Medical Center and crime scene investigation presentation. Students will also become certified in first aid and CPR, the news release stated.

The cost for MedCamp is $100 per student, and it will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

The registration deadline is May 1 and space is limited to 28 students. For information or to register, call Penn State Mont Alto's continuing education office at 717-709-0778.

WIN to host annual Vigil Against Violence



CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -- Women In Need will hold its 17th annual Vigil Against Violence at 6:45 p.m. Thursday, April 30, at Wilson College. The event, which is open to the public, will begin in Sarah's Coffeehouse on the lower level of the Lenfest Commons building.

Cindy Shoemaker, Wilson College director of counseling, will deliver the keynote address, "Taking Steps Toward Rebuilding Lives."

This year's ceremony also will feature a Franklin County Commissioners' proclamation of National Crime Victims' Week, live music, artwork by survivors of violence and a steppingstone path representing victims of crime. Victims will share their personal stories of survival. The vigil will end with a candlelight march through the Wilson campus.

Wilson College students will participate and assist in the vigil, which will be held rain or shine.
