Edith Virginia Cook, 93, of Hagerstown, went to be with the Lord Friday, April 17, 2009, at Julia Manor Health Care Center, Hagerstown, Md.

Born Dec. 17, 1915, in Weverton, Md., she was the daughter of the late Janie C. (Weedon) Brown and John T. Brown Sr.

She was the wife of the late Howell Lawrence Cook Sr., who departed in 1958.

Edith was a 50-year member of Zion Baptist Church, Hagerstown, where she was a senior choir member, served as a trustee, with the usher board, missionaries society and a number of other committees. She was a Mother of the church, volunteered for the March of Dimes and was also a poll worker for the election board.

Edith is survived by two daughters, Betty Jane Stoner and husband, Thomas Stoner, and Dorothy Eunice Keats; two sons, Mwamba Raheem and wife, Rosalin T. Cook, all of Hagerstown, and Gary L. Cook and wife, Catherine Cook, of Bowie, Md.; one sister, Mary Gross of Knoxville, Md.; one brother, John T. Brown Jr. of Frederick, Md.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Edith was preceded in death by one son, Howell L. Cook Jr.; one sister; and three brothers.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 23, 2009, at Zion Baptist Church, 61 Bethel St., Hagerstown. The Rev. George Nathan Bell will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Lisa M. Boone. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Zion Baptist Church, 61 W. Bethel St., Hagerstown MD 21740.
