Errors haunt Suns again

April 21, 2009

SALISBURY, Md. -- Three Hagerstown Suns errors helped the Delmarva Shorebirds earn a 2-1 victory in eight innings in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader Tuesday.

The second game of the doubleheader was rained out.

In the opener, Joseph Mahoney's RBI single off Suns reliever Austin Garrett in the eighth inning scored Greg Miclat with the winning run for Delmarva (7-4).

Garrett came on with two outs in the eighth and the bases empty. A throwing error by shortstop Nick Arata allowed Miclat to reach first, and Garrett's wild pitch moved Miclat to second. Garrett intentionally walked Ronnie Welty before giving up Mahoney's single.

Delmarva broke a scoreless tie in the sixth with the help of two errors by Suns right fielder Michael Guerrero.

The Suns (5-6) forced an extra inning with Derek Norris' solo home run in the seventh. Minor league doubleheader games are scheduled for seven innings.
