BlueClaws use late rallies, turn back Suns

Lakewood showed a flair for the dramatic on Thursday.

The BlueClaws waited until the last moment, using two-out hits in each of the last two innings to tie and then pull out an 11-9 victory over the Hagerstown Suns.

Sebastian Valle hit a two-out, two-run double off Carlos Peralta in the ninth inning to help Lakewood get a 9-9 tie and an extra inning of work.

The BlueClaws made it count in the 10th when Harold Garcia ripped a two-out, two-run single with the bases loaded off Patrick Arnold to steal the win.

The Suns led 9-7 after scoring three runs in the eighth to take the lead. Marcus Jones brought in two runs when he reached on an error by right fielder Leandro Castro and Michael Guerrero followed with an RBI single.

The Suns (4-3) led 5-0 after two innings until Lakewood started to get to starter Jack McGeary. The BlueClaws chased McGeary with three runs in the fourth and moved to a 7-6 lead in the fifth inning.

Guerrero led the Suns with three hits and two RBIs while Steve Lombardozzi had three hits and one RBI.

Valle and Jim Murphy had three hits each for Lakewood.
