Ted was an avid hunter. He bagged more than 80 deer in his lifetime. He loved to hunt mushrooms also. Ted was a quiet person, but loved his family and friends and was especially proud of his only grandson, Tyler. He loved to sit with friends and family and tell hunting stories and stories about mushroom hunting. Before Ted became sick, he was well known by those who knew him for his kindness, generosity and willingness to help others. He was also there to lend a hand when needed.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Dorothy Ellen Mills of Big Pool. They were wed on July 4, 1962 and enjoyed 46 1/2 wonderful years of marriage together. He is also survived by one son, Theodore Jr. and wife, Teresa, of Hedgesville, W.Va.; one daughter, Dianne and husband, Stephen, of Hagerstown; one grandson, Tyler Maxwell of Hedgesville; two sisters, Edna Keplinger of Hagerstown and Anna "Bean" Stouffer and husband, Charles, of Mount Lena; three brothers, Marvin "Boo" Mills and companion, Edna Slater, of Hagerstown, Robert Mills and wife, Bea, of Big Pool and John Mills and wife, Nellie, of Clear Spring; numerous nephews; nieces; and great-nieces; and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred "Sis" Huffman and Martha Ryder; six brothers, Kenneth Mills, Clarence "Jake" Mills, Gay Mills, Lewis "Buzz" Mills, Lloyd "Jess" Mills and Ernest Mills.
Services will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home Inc., 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring. The Rev. Jonathan Laye will officiate. Burial will be in Parkhead Cemetery, Big Pool.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. For the convenience of friends, you may visit the funeral home after 10 a.m.
