Volunteers needed to work on canal cleanup

April 08, 2009

HANCOCK - The C&O Canal Trust, in partnership with the C&O Canal National Historical Park, is seeking energetic and community-minded individuals and organizations to complete maintenance and conservation projects throughout the park during the upcoming C&O Canal Pride Days.

In Washington County, volunteers will be needed Saturday, May 2, in Williamsport and Hancock.

Folks are needed to lay mulch, paint, rake leaves, prune, clear vegetation, clean up trash, install picnic tables and do many other tasks.

These are projects that the National Park Service cannot accomplish because of time and staffing constraints. The C&O Canal Trust, along with the volunteers, will assist the park by completing the tasks.

C&O Canal Pride Days is an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, meet new people, and participate in the spirit of unity and service.
