GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Janice Snyder Saur, 74, of Greencastle, Pa., passed away Sunday, April 5, 2009, at her home.

Born Monday, Feb. 11, 1935, in Upton, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Eldridge B. Snyder and the late Etta Hager Snyder.

She was a 1953 graduate of Lemasters High School and a 1957 graduate of Ashland University, Ashland, Ohio. She retired from the Washington County Board of Education, teaching for 39 years. She originated the preschool at Clear Spring High School, she also served as cheerleader advisor and girls softball coach. She was presented with the Award of Excellence in Education in 1991. She was listed in Who's Who Among American Teachers twice. After retiring in 1996 she volunteered in the Reading Program at Paramount Elementary. While in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., she volunteered at both elementary and middle reading programs.

She was a member of the Pennsylvania Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society. She was a member of the Paramount Baptist Church and attended Otterbein United Methodist Church of Hagerstown, where she was a member of the Golden Rule Class and assisted with Daily Vacation Bible School.

She is survived by her college sweetheart and husband of 52 years, R. Ross Saur; two sons, Brenton P. Saur and wife Patty of Greencastle, Pa., and Bryan P. Saur of Austin, Texas; one daughter, Blythe P. Terkelsen and husband Robert of Scottsdale, Ariz.; grandson, M. Logan Davis of Scottsdale; stepgranddaughter, Erin Lloyd and husband Will of Hagerstown; stepgrandson, Brody Lloyd of Hagerstown; brother, G.W. Snyder of Greencastle; sister, Roberta L. Happel of Chambersburg, Pa.; brother-in-law, Frederick Saur and wife Muriel of Elyride, Ohio; and extended family, Randall L. Flair and wife Paulette of Greencastle.

Services will be held Thursday, April 9, 2009, at 10 a.m., at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, with the Rev. Dr. Stephen D. Robison officiating.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, April 8.

Interment will be in the Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
