W. Antietam to be closed for water, sewer work

April 06, 2009

HAGERSTOWN -- Work crews from Musser's Plumbing will be installing new water and sanitary sewer service lines in West Antietam Street on Tuesday, beginning at 7 a.m., if weather permits.

West Antietam Street will be closed to through traffic between Burhans Boulevard and Washington Street at Washington Square; local traffic will still be able to reach properties within that block.

Emergency vehicles will not be able to pass through the work zone.

Vehicles approaching the work zone will be forced to detour around the area using other city streets, according to a release from the City of Hagerstown.

Motorists approaching the work zone should expect to encounter cones, barricades, and other traffic control devices, the release says. The contractor anticipates that the work will require two days to complete.

This block of West Antietam Street will be reopened to traffic by 4 p.m. Tuesday, but will be closed again at 7 a.m. on Wednesday in order for the contractor to complete the work, the release says.

All work should be completed by 4 p.m. Wednesday.

If this work is delayed on Tuesday morning by bad weather, the contractor will reschedule the work to begin on Wednesday and to be completed on Thursday.

Those with questions may contact the city's Department of Engineering and Code Administration at 301-739-8577, ext. 125.
