FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - J. Franklin Gayman, 87, of 5860 Fairway Drive, died Thursday, April 2, 2009.
Born July 5, 1921, in Thompsontown, Pa., he was a son of the late Benjamin Franklin Gayman and Sadie Irene Hepner Gayman.
His wife, Mary Fields Gayman, died Sept. 26, 2004. They were married June 24, 1944.
He was a 1938 graduate of Thompsontown High School and graduated in 1942 with a B.S. degree from Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa., then in 1948, graduated from Dickinson School of Law in Carlisle.
He owned and operated the former Frank Gayman Chevrolet and Oldsmobile in Chambersburg, Pa.
He was a former attorney and former Deputy Attorney General of Pennsylvania.
He served with the U.S. Navy Air Corps during World War II.
He was a member of Pennsylvania Bar Association, National Oldsmobile Dealer Council, member and former president of Harrisburg Zone Chevrolet Dealers Association, a member of General James Chambers Lodge 801 F&AM, Harrisburg Consistory, and Zembo Temple. He served in 1966 as president of the Greater Chambersburg Chamber of Commerce and was one of the founders of Chambersburg Area Development Corp. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Chambersburg Hospital.
