March 31, 2009

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- A Herald-Mail newspaper carrier spotted a fire at 619 W. Burke St. shortly after 4:30 a.m. Saturday, the Martinsburg Fire Department said Monday.

The first firefighters on the scene found fire visible from outside the 30-by-32-foot vacant building, according to a news release.

The fire was brought under control in less than 30 minutes.

The building is owned by Mount Pisgah Lodge No. 3, but it has been vacant for several years. Fire officials said the building sustained heavy damage that makes it uninhabitable.

Investigators are asking anyone with information about the fire to contact Investigator Greg Hoover at 304-264-2111 or Detective Scott Doyle at 304-264-2100. Callers wishing to remain anonymous may also contact Berkeley County Crime Solvers at 304-267-4999.
