FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Maurice E. Gilbert, 88, formerly of Fayetteville, died Saturday, March 28, 2009, at Quincy (Pa.) United Methodist Home.

Born Sept. 17, 1920, in Ringwood, Ill., he was the son of the late Harry and Anna Mary Redcay Gilbert.

He served during the Korean War with the U.S. Marine Corps.

He retired from Willig's Trucking in Fresno, Calif.

He is survived by five children, Gary R. Gilbert of Wilmington, N.C., Elwood L. Gilbert of Chambersburg, Pa., Michael E. Gilbert of Haymarket, Va., and Terry L. Gilbert and Renae M. Crittenden, both of Fayetteville, Pa; one sister, Betty Carbaugh of Chambersburg; 13 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and 12 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his former wife, Laura E. Downin Gilbert; one sister, June G. Kirk; one brother, Robert E. Gilbert; one half-sister, Mabel Lesher; and one half-brother, Harold Gilbert.


Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg. The Rev. Guy R. Baer will officiate. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery, with military graveside honors conducted by Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
