FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Hilda Catherine Hammett Kohut, 90, a resident at The Village of Laurel Run and formerly of St. Mary's City, Md., died Sunday, March 29, 2009, at the nursing home.

Born Nov. 21, 1918, in Ridge, Md., she was the daughter of the late Alfred F. and Mary Teresa Wilkenson Hammett.

Her husband, George C. Kohut, died in 1986. They were married Feb. 19, 1938.

She was a graduate of St. Michael's High School.

She was a seamstress.

She is survived by one daughter, Carole L. Smith of Chambersburg, Pa.; one son, George F. Kohut of Frederica, Del.; one sister, Agnes Ridgell of Morganza, Md.; two brothers, A. Orem Hammett of Valley Lee, Md., and Michael Hammett of Ridge; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by one daughter, Lorena K. Baldwin; two sisters, Teresa Gerek and Alice Alvey; and two brothers, John and Richard Hammett.

A memorial Mass will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at The Village of Laurel Run. Burial will be in St. Mary's City at a future date.

The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to The Village of Laurel Run Auxiliary, c/o Larry Cottle, 6375 Chambersburg Road, Fayetteville, PA 17222.
