FORT ASHBY, W.Va. - Evelyn Maphis Barron, 81, of Dawn View Center, Fort Ashby, and formerly of Williamsport, Md., passed away Thursday, March 26, 2009, in Cumberland Memorial Hospital.

Born on April 10, 1927, in Hampshire County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late James and Helen (Hines) Maphis.

She retired from the WV School of Deaf & Blind.

She was a member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church, Williamsport, and a member of Order of Eastern Star, Hagerstown, Md.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her first husband, Elvin Shanholtz; a sister, Maxine Akers; a brother, Paul Maphis; a nephew, David Maphis; and a stepson, A. Scott Barron.


She is survived by her second husband, Emerson S. Barron of Williamsport; a son, John Shanholtz and companion, Karen Steeves, of Winchester, Va.; granddaughter, Christina Timbrook and husband, Ronnie; two great-granddaughters; a niece, Linda Bennett of Fort Ashby; three nephews, Donnie Keckley, Keyser, W.Va., Robert Maphis, Romney, W.Va., and Jeff Akers, Baltimore, Md.; and the beloved staff at Dawn View Center.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
