Kira Oree wins Maugansville Ruritan essay contest

Each year for the past 18 years, the Maugansville Ruritan Club has sponsored an essay contest for the fifth-grade students at Maugansville Elementary School.

This year's topic was "If I Were President." Student winners, along with their parents, fifth-grade teachers and school principal were honored at the monthly dinner meeting Feb. 18.

Students were asked to present their winning essays to the club and then received a U.S. savings bond for their winning essay.

First place - Kira Oree, winner of a $100 savings bond

Second place - Jenny Montgomery, winner of a $75 savings bond

Third place - Anna Sheck, winner of a $50 savings bond

Parents of the students, along with fifth-grade teachers Mr. Dingle, Mr. Keefer, Mrs. Deneen, and Mrs. Grantham, were introduced. Grantham thanked the club for its continued support of programs at Maugansville Elementary School.
