Preps Roundup -- Goretti downs McConnellsburg

PREP SOFTBALL

Caroline Rosenthal, Brenna Edmunds, Emma Bartholomew and Katie Rainey each had two hits to lead St. Maria Goretti past McConnellsburg on Friday, 8-3.

Rosenthal threw a three-hitter with eight strikeouts for the Gaels (2-3).

Sam McQuade had two hits for McConnellsburg.

WAYNESBORO, Pa. -- Taryn Ashway fired a two-hitter with 16 strikeouts and drove in a run to lead Waynesboro to a victory over Spring Grove.

The Madiens (4-0) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning, keyed by RBI singles by Megan Baker and Danni Miller.

Miller and Ashway each had two of Waynesboro's nine hits. Ashway and Miller hit back-to-back triples in the sixth to drive in the Maidens' final run.

Rachel Stotler had the go-ahead two-run single for the Blue Devils (2-1) and then added a three-run home run in the seventh inning.

FREDERICK, Md. -- Trevor Haupt led South Hagerstown with three hits and three RBIs as the Rebels exploded for 17 hits to earn their first win of the season.

Joey Miller had three hits and drove in a pair while Tim Hoover added two hits and three RBIs for the Rebels (1-1). Jordan Hatfield, Adrian Adams and Nick Stubbs had two hits apiece in the win.

Seth Poffenberger drove in Jeremy Hardy for an insurance run in the sixth inning while Sean Colgan pitched the seventh for his first save of the year for the Warriors (1-3).

Urbana falls to 1-3 with the loss.
